OPEN TRYOUTS WILL BE AVAILABLE DURING THE FALL 2024 SESSION - DETAILS TO BE ANNOUNCED IN AUGUST

Due to the yearly cycle of Club water polo, teams are typically formed in the fall and train together through the end of summer. as a result, our age groups and teams for the Summer Session are currently filled.

NOTE:  Open tryouts across all divisions will be available during the Fall 2024 Session.

THE TRYOUT PROCESS:

DEL MAR WATER POLO CLUB REQUIRES A ONE-WEEK TRYOUT PERIOD FOR NEW, POTENTIAL MEMBERS.

Our tryout option allows an athlete to participate in up to four practices per week in his/her first week. During which time Del Mar WPC Coaches will evaluate each athlete’s skill level.

  • All tryout athletes must pre-register before arriving at the pool. A registration link will be made available and posted to the website prior to the announced tryout dates.
  • Non-registered athletes will not be able to participate in the tryouts - no exceptions.
  • There is no cost to try out.
  • At the end of the tryout week, the athlete can choose not to join and no fee will be charged.
  • If the athlete is invited to join one of our Del Mar Water Polo Club teams, a formal registration email will be sent to the athlete’s parents; and, the full fee will be charged.

Note: an athlete's assignment to a team will be based on several factors, including but not limited to: prior experience, attitude, effort and current skill level. Team placement is not guaranteed.

Tryouts take place at Cathedral Catholic High School's pool.

Tryout athletes must join United States Water Polo (USAWP); there is a two-week trial membership that you can access on USA Water Polo's website at www.usawaterpolo.org; click on "Join Now" and choose the "Trial Membership." Be sure your athlete's membership is affiliated with Del Mar Water Polo Club (CA-18227).

USAWP Membership

All athletes registered with Del Mar WPC must provide proof of a current USA Water Polo membership.

Players will be withheld from participation in practice and tournaments if they do not possess a current USAWP membership.

If your athlete does not already have a current membership, please visit www.usawaterpolo.org to renew or sign up for a membership.

The options for USAWP membership are:

Gold Athlete – recommended for all Competition Athletes. The “complete” athlete membership; eligible for all USAWP sanctioned activity, including club practices, sanctioned events, National Championship Events and all Olympic Development programs.

Silver Athlete – recommended for our Training Only athletes. The “amateur” athlete membership; eligible for club practices and sanctioned events.

Splashball Pass Holder - an entry-level membership for first time or recreational water polo athletes aged 5-11.

* Note: Age Eligibility - A player’s age division is determined by the athlete’s age on August 1st of the year in which the tournament is being held. For example: If a player is 14 years old on August 1, they are eligible to compete in the 14U division. If an athlete turns 15 on July 31, his/her age is 15 on August 1st and is therefore not eligible for the 14U division. They are, however, able to participate in the 16U division.

Please bring proof of your athlete's USAWP membership to the first practice and give it to the Parent Liaison on deck.
